Dr John Younger

CT Specialist & Imaging Cardiologist
Dr John Younger is an Associate of the Queensland Cardiovascular Group, and Director of Cardiac CT Services at St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital. He is a Consultant Cardiologist at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, as well as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland. He specialises in cardiac imaging, in particular cardiac CT and cardiac MRI, but also transthoracic, transoesophageal and stress echocardiography.
Dr Younger began his cardiac CT training in 2005 on a 16 slice scanner, and is a Founding Member of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) and holds a Level B Accreditation with the Australian and New Zealand Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of Training in CT Coronary Angiography. He undertook a 2-year Fellowship in Cardiac MRI at Leeds University, United Kingdom, before returning to Australia in 2007 to establish the cardiac CT and cardiac MRI programs at RBWH, in conjunction with the Medical Imaging department. He holds Fellowships of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, and Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.
Dr Younger is a regular speaker at national and international conferences, including SCCT 2012 in Baltimore, USA, SCMR 2011 in Nice, France, and CSANZ 2010 in Adelaide. He has acted as the Scientific Coordinator for several national meetings on cardiac imaging, in particular the Gold Coast Cardiac Imaging Symposium, and was the Co-Chair of the Imaging Stream for the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand Scientific Sessions in 2012. He is a Member of the State-wide Cardiac Network for Queensland, and was Chair of the Committee establishing a pathway for the investigation of intermediate risk chest pain patients presenting to Queensland Health Hospitals.
In 2010, Dr Younger organised Australia's first radiographer training course for cardiac CT. He has also taught CT angiography courses in Brisbane and Adelaide, and with CT experts such as Harvey Hecht in Perth, and John Hoe in Sydney. He has published in a variety of medical journals, including The BMJ and Heart. His most recent article was in The Lancet in 2012 as an author of the landmark CE-MARC study.
